Are you happy with your performance in India and the performance of the Dutch team?

I think every person always believes that he could do better. The most disappointing thing is that because of the weather it was difficult to do better, so I believe I have done what I could have done. As a team we just lost to Bangladesh who beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Asia cup and just lost to India in the final, so I think we have done well but we were in a position to win that game which makes it disappointing.

Do you feel Dutch?

I have been in Holland for ten years leading into my 11th year and have played for Holland now for five years, so yes I do feel Dutch. When I speak to my parents about going to Holland I actually say I am going home! So yes I feel 100% Dutch.

Should there be more Dutch born players in the national team?

About more Dutch born players playing in the national team.... It's a difficult one. I don't believe the youth is strong enough yet. I spent time with the Dutch A team in Sri Lanka in December 2015 and to be honest they are very talented but not ready yet.

I think the one thing that cricket countries can learn from Australia is just that. With age and experience comes the best cricket. I sometimes believe that a few Dutch players and supporters push too hard for the young Dutch players to play which can cause them massive problems.

If you look at Voges and Hussey from Australia, they made debuts at a very late stage of their career and are absolute special players. So I believe there is enough talent in Holland, but I also believe the players and supporters should be little more patient as you want your young players to perform at the big stage.

Paul van Meekeren is a good example. He has been with us now for about 4 years and got dropped for the previous T20 world cup. I know he wasn't ready then but it made him stronger and work harder and now with more experience he is a very good player.  So to answer your question. Yes there could be more Dutch born players but I believe it takes time; and for them to be better players, they need more time training and getting used to the environment and learn from players which come from cricket nations: that will make them better cricketers. So I believe they should be patient.

Max O’Dowd is also a very talented cricketer but still young so think he still has a bit to learn. But no doubt he will be in the Dutch 11 soon and will be a very good player for Netherlands in the near future. Max played for HCC as a junior.

Grateful to play for the Dutch team

HCC was my first club in Holland and I still want to thank the club for what they have done for me in the past. If it wasn't for HCC I would not be where I am now: playing for Holland!
