HCC-ACC T20 by Yash Patel

For the third round of T20s, HCC's first match was against ACC. As three games were supposed to be played, the start time was at 10 AM, which is unusual in Dutch cricket. However, Boris, HCC captain, kept his image intact after losing the toss again (no surprises there). As a result, HCC were asked to field first.

Bowling first, Clayton and Hidde started off well, giving only 9 runs in the first two overs. After that, however, ACC's openers Chris Knoll and Robin Smith were up to the challenge. Both played counterattacking cricketing shots in the powerplay, had a 50-run partnership and scored 61 runs off 6 overs. In the 9th over, Jan-Wieger (also known as the hot-headed Overdijk) finally got the breakthrough for HCC by claiming Chris' wicket. The score halfway, i.e., after 10 overs, was 79-1. After 10 overs, Robin Smith boosted his leg-side wagon wheel, where he often scored at least one boundary in an over and made Clayton like a pie-chucker! Overall, it was a Robin Smith show from ACC where they scored 186 runs off 20 overs at the loss of 4 wickets. This is a consequence of mediocre bowling performance by the HCC bowling unit despite not having such lousy bowling figures from Jan Wieger, Tim Pringle (the one who likes Planes) and Tim Wassenaar (the one who wants to often bowl short)--the economy rate of all three were at most 7. Clayton, Felix B. and Jan Wieger claimed one wicket each.

Having been given the target of 187, HCC did not start their batting innings well as Tonny skied the ball trying to pull it in the second over. We believe he had one too many Malaga-flavored ice creams on his vacation (pun intended). Clayton, too, could not make an impact as he gave his wicket away trying to take a cheeky single. The score was 21-2 after 4 overs which meant that Boris and Zac had to apply acceleration. Boris took on the challenge head-on and showed a variety of shots by entertaining the crowd, especially with his ramp shot which went for half a dozen runs. While Zac being Zac, was happy rotating strike. Boris was soon dismissed on 42 runs (off 23 balls) when he looked dangerous trying to slog sweep. The score halfway was 77-3. After Boris, Tim (the plane lover) came into bat and played as if both were on the same team in a relay race. Tim was whacking the ball out of the park at his own whim. Unfortunately, Tim did not get enough support from his teammates as they (Zac, Hidde and Yash) fell like a house of cards! The equation after 15 overs was 118-6 with Tim and Felix B., and the required run rate was almost 14 per over. After some fireworks, Tim, too, got out, trying to overcome the required run rate. He scored a brilliant 59 off 30 balls. Tim's dismissal made HCC's loss evident, and the final score was 154-9 after 20 overs. A defeat by 32 runs for HCC. The pick of the bowlers for ACC was TG Hobson, D Arya and R Smith, who collectively claimed 8 (3, 3, 2) wickets.

HCC-Quick T20

161 v9 – 62 ao

De wedstrijd tussen HCC en Quick zou een boeiend slotakkoord vormen van een prachtige zomerse dag op De Diepput. De tweede wedstrijd in het drieluik  (Quick - ACC) was eerder onverwacht makkelijk gewonnen door Quick. De gevaarlijke batting side van ACC werd voor 70 aan de kant gezet. De batsmen van Quick hadden slechts 12.4 overs nodig om de benodigde runs te scoren voor het verlies van twee wickets.

De activiteiten van de Business Club en de Club van 6 zorgden voor extra publiek en reuring op het terras en de tribune.  De toeschouwers keken naar een boeiende batting inning van HCC. Tonny Staal ging helaas snel uit. Zac Worden (38 uit 40) bleef lekker staan en roteerde de strike terwijl Boris Gorlee (24 uit 16) , Hidde Overdijk (19 uit 10), Yash Patel (12 uit 5) en met name Tim Pringle (40 uit 27) aan de andere kant zorgden voor de benodigde versnelling. Na 20 overs eindigde HCC op 161 runs voor het verlies van 9 wickets. De bowlers van HCC waren duidelijk uit op revanche na de slappe vertoning tegen ACC eerder op de dag.  Behalve Cameron Jackson (19 uit 14) was er niemand van Quick in staat om de bowlers van HCC onder druk te zetten. Na het vertrek van Jackson was het snel gedaan met de batting side van Quick en na 62 runs uit 13.2 overs was de wedstrijd afgelopen.  Tim Pringle (3 voor 7 in 3), Hidde Overdijk (2 voor 11 in 2) en Clayton Floyd (3 voor 12 in 4) eindigden met prachtige cijfers.
