HVV’s E10 made a quick advance over their opponents - Blauw Zwart E6 - on the home frost-covered pitch early last Saturday morning,  with Marko making a decisive goal just minutes into the first half.  Not long after, Baptiste saw a clear opening in the opposing keeper’s wide stance and claimed the second goal of the match, leaving Blauw Zwart’s defense scrambling to rethink their defense, and the posture of their keeper. 

Several attempts to score against E10 were repeatedly thwarted by Keeper William, who gamely intercepted the incoming balls with the able assistance of a solid defense. Nicolas followed Baptiste’s example, seizing another opportunity to subvert the best efforts of Blauw Zwart’s keeper, whose wide stance again proved a willing accomplice to the ambitions of team HVV. Marco scored number 4, his second goal of the game, with Baptiste spiking goal number 5 with a strategic upper corner shot. After a quick refreshment and team regroup, Marko led the charge at the start of the second half with yet another swift corner goal, this one to the upper right, achieving E10’s last point of the match. Owing to boredom, fatigue or over confidence, E10’s keeper and defense soon lifted the black and blue spirits of their determined opponents, allowing two shots in near-succession reach their target. E10’s flagging defense likewise contributed to Blauw Zwart’s third goal. William’s initial save proved in vain as a rebound shot skipped over the line. With just minutes before the final whistle, E10 fans swallowed hard as the match now teetered perilously close to even-score with Blauw Zwart achieving yet another goal against the once-confident HVV players. Alas, time itself came to the rescue and ended the match victoriously for the boys of HVV, a win long overdue. William was awarded “Player of the Week” for the several saves that otherwise would have tipped the balance in favor of team Blauw Zwart, given their impressive second-half surge. Indeed, the weekend was off to a very good start.
