Dames 3-Meike saves the day!

Report of the first game of the year

No 4s came on court with the two players fairly new to the competition circuit.  Meike playing only her second ever competition game began a little cautiously but fresh from Carl’s training remembered his tips to ‘get the ball to the back’ and with some well placed serves the first game was in the bag.  Second game Sluipers No 4 began to get into her stride with some high lob serves but fortunately Meike’s strength dominated and feeling more and more confident she found herself serving for the match.  3-0 for Haagsche Dieput.
Next on court the ‘always positive and smiley’ Loise provided some super squash entertainment with the first game going to 15-13.  This was the pattern for the whole match with the two players matching point for point.  Loise produced some very accurate returns of serve in the first part of the match but when the Sluipers player suddenly changed her serve it just tipped the match in her favour and Loise had to accept a 1-3 defeat.
Jill playing at No 1 faced a familiar opponent and knew she was in for a tough match.  Astrid from Sluipers used the same lob serve technique which saw Jill on the back foot.  However, after a coaching session from team mates Jill came back determined to ‘hit it like you mean it’ making her opponent work hard for any points and she managed to pull back a game so the stand was 1-2 for Sluipers.  The fourth game was the most exciting with Jill leading at 10-8 but somehow she could not quite capitalise on the lead and Astrid won the match for Sluijpers
Heleen was pitted against the very experienced Anja who started the match with some amazing drop shots which she managed to achieve from both the front and back of the court.  After dropping the first game Heleen started to make use of her lengths to move her opponent around the court and drew the game level.  However, Anja’s lob serve proved to be the winning move and she won the next two games after producing some amazing high lob serves that dropped dead in the corners interchanged with drops just above the tin. 1-3 to Sluipers.
